About Me

Maybe it was because I was born in Malawi, and lived in England, the Bahamas, Wales, San Francisco, Spain, and Australia, with many side trips in between, that I love to travel.

I can’t quite pin down why I love it so much. Perhaps because life narrows to the essentials on the road and I don’t have to do the washing up. My idea of heaven is to order a coffee in a bustling cafe, maybe with something sweet, and watch everyone. I could do that all day. And I can also spend a long time in museums and galleries, something my kids like to complain about.

As a child, I lived on a very small island in the Bahamas for three years and reading became my life line. If I can find a book about, or set, in a place I’m visiting, even better. In my blog posts, I will sometimes add a “Read” section to suggest relevant books.

I’m not at all intrepid. For me, it’s about sharing. I prefer to travel with family or friends. And I can’t wait to tell everyone about it.

I have in the past reviewed books/plays/films and I include some of those here, along with some older published travel stories. I am, sporadically, working on a memoir about my itinerant childhood and adventures in Mozambique.
